Yes, White people who want to be good need to understand that they are responsible for what they do and what they are a part of. There's no opting-out of the hurt we cause. Either we see it for what it is and work to improve, or we keep being the bad guys. Expecting forgiveness is not loving, also. Good people don't show compassion for the sake of being loved in return. You are good to others because they deserve to be treated well.
